Warm and Timeless First Floor Transformation

This Leesburg renovation reimagined the heart of the home with a more functional kitchen, beautifully layered finishes, and thoughtful updates throughout the first floor.

The original kitchen was constrained by an enclosed pantry that projected into the room, along with a separate closet between the kitchen and mudroom. Removing these enclosures allowed the kitchen to extend farther into the former pantry area, creating space for a wall of custom pantry cabinetry and a significantly larger island. Access between the kitchen, laundry room, and mudroom was also reworked with new doorways, including a space-saving pocket door into the laundry room, resulting in a more natural flow among these hardworking spaces.

Within the expanded layout, the sink, refrigerator, and range areas were repositioned to improve the kitchen’s everyday workflow. The wider, furniture-style island now anchors the room, providing generous space for meal preparation, storage, casual dining, and entertaining. Custom storage, including integrated pantry cabinets, concealed trash and recycling, refrigerator drawers, and a dedicated spice and oil pullout, helps keep the kitchen organized and visually calm.

Soft, warm-gray perimeter cabinetry is balanced by rich espresso-stained maple cabinetry on the island and pantry wall. Honed Calacatta Cervaiole marble flows across the countertops and continues up the walls as a full-height backsplash, bringing movement and character to the refined palette. A professional-style range, custom plaster-finished range hood, aged-brass hardware, sculptural lighting, and carefully placed art sconces add warmth and personality.

The renovation extended beyond the kitchen to include updates to the mudroom, laundry room, powder room, and surrounding first-floor spaces. Existing hardwoods were refinished, and new hardwood flooring was incorporated into the sunroom to create a seamless transition from room to room. In the powder room, a black furniture-style vanity, marble countertop, brass fixtures, and rich, earthy wall color create an intimate space with its own distinctive character.

The result is a warm, collected home that feels elegant without being formal, bringing together traditional detailing, modern functionality, and materials designed to become even more beautiful with time.
